606 - Art Therapy: Group Dynamics & Therapeutic Skills

This experiential course is a continuation of the first-year course 506.  It focuses on the further development of therapeutic skills required in the practice of art therapy. The principles of group therapy will be explored in the context of art therapy. Orientation to the special topic of Family Art Therapy will also be addressed including theory and practice skills Students have an opportunity to create art and to continue to practice the role of the art therapist in dyads, triads, and small groups. The opportunity to be the client/participant, the therapist and the observer supports the integration of art therapy theory and practice. The focus of this course is to practice art therapy and to have an opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback. It is an interactive and dynamic process.
