Everyday Enchantment: The Gentle Magic of Creative Acts in Daily Life

At the heart of this paper lies a story, one stitched together through lived experience, creative exploration, and a deep belief in the healing power of art. “The Quilt in the Woods,” my original storybook, became both a vessel and a mirror, reflecting the themes I have come to hold dear through my journey as an art therapist in training. Through this work, I examine the significance of creative practice as a powerful means of personal growth, self-understanding, and connection. These ideas were deeply reinforced and expanded during my training, where I came to more fully recognize just how impactful everyday creating can be. My schooling offered the space to observe, research, and experience firsthand how intuitive and healing the creative process truly is. Through engaging in acts of creation, no matter how simple or small, individuals can cultivate a more intimate relationship with themselves, their communities, their loved ones, and the natural world around them. Rooted in both lived experience and academic research, this paper highlights the transformative potential of creativity and the quiet, enduring beauty of art in everyday life. It delves into the personal narratives that shaped my storybook while also expanding into a broader exploration of why art-making matters. I offer this work as an invitation to return to what we already know deep within ourselves—what our souls and bodies need to feel whole. My journey toward becoming an art therapist began with my own disconnection from art, a time that shaped both my personal healing and the storybook I later wrote.
