Reclaiming Cyclical Embodiment: Two Booklets for Menstruators

This capstone project is an accessible, creative, and trauma-informed approach to menstrual literacy. Responding to the lack of comprehensive menstrual education in Canadian schools and healthcare systems, the project introduces two illustrated psychoeducational booklets—one for adolescents beginning their menstrual journey and one for adults reconnecting with their cyclical health. Each booklet combines evidencebased information on the four phases of the menstrual cycle with art therapy invitations, nature metaphors, self-reflection writing prompts, and somatic exercises. Rooted in feminist, relational, and developmental theory, the intention of this project is to transform menstrual education into empowerment by fostering body awareness, self-compassion, and informed advocacy. Ultimately, this project invites a cultural shift toward not only viewing menstrual health as mental health, but as a fundamental component of wholebody wellness.
